Waterview Tunnel set to open early July

Auckland’s Waterview Tunnel is due to open to traffic in early July, according to Transport Minister Simon Bridges. This will follow a ceremonial opening on 18 June and a series of public open days. This is the biggest and most complex roading project in New Zealand, costing $1.4 billion and incorporating two 2.4km-long three-lane tunnels.

Over 500 new engineers just the start

Minister of Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Paul Goldsmith has recognised the achievement of the Engineering Education to Employment (Engineering E2E) programme in reaching its goal of 500+ engineering graduates per a year early. The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) has confirmed 511 graduates from priority engineering courses in 2016. There was a total of 2,151 engineering graduates in 2016.

Smarter Transport Pricing project gets underway in Auckland

The Government has announced it has agreed Terms of Reference with Auckland Council to investigate smart transport pricing in Auckland. Transport Minister Simon Bridges said that “smarter transport pricing could help make a big difference in the performance of Auckland’s transport system.” Stage one of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
