New Year Honour for Beca’s Richard Aitken
Congratulations to Beca chair Richard Aitken DistFIPENZ, who has been made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business and engineering.
Richard has been an Executive Director of Beca for 40 years. Before becoming Executive Chairman of the Beca Group in 2009, he held several leadership roles including Group CEO, a position he held for over 10 years.
Beca is New Zealand's largest employee-owned professional services consultancy, with more than 1100 employee shareholders throughout New Zealand, Australia and Asia.
The citation for Richard’s award acknowledges his reputation for delivering quality projects on time and under budget. He has overseen major infrastructure projects including the Manukau Wastewater Plant, and at present is Chair of the Project Alliance Board for the Waterview Tunnel. His governance skills are reflected in appointments to external boards including current directorships with Trustpower Limited and Panuku Development Auckland Ltd (Chair) and previously Manukau Wastewater Services Limited and Hutt Valley Water Services Limited. He is also Chairman of the Advisory Board for Te Punaha Matatini – a National Centre of Research Excellence hosted by the University of Auckland.
Richard received an honorary doctorate from the University of Auckland in June 2016.
He has signalled that he will stand down as Executive Chairman of Beca on April 1, with David Carter - the son of Beca’s Sir Ron Carter – to take on the role.
