Civil Defence Emergency Management Amendment Bill
New Zealand faces many potential natural hazards. Making sure we are well set up to recover from these events is important. In this submission to the Government Administration Committee, IPENZ and SESOC set out their views on the Civil Defence Emergency Management Amendment Bill.
We support many aspects of the Amendment Bill. We do, however, recommend the Amendment Bill be improved by:
- encouraging the Minister considers the capability of local authorities in his/her decision to declare a transition period
- including provision for structural inspections
- providing guidance about placarding, in the absence of it being covered in the Amendment Bill
- provision of more guidance about compensation.
