Dunedin City Council’s Second Generation District Plan

The protection of New Zealand’s engineering heritage is important, as a means of preserving heritage items or sites and of educating people. This submission from IPENZ to the Dunedin City Council responds to the proposed Second Generation Plan. The submission sets out our view that the scheduling of heritage places in District Plans is an important mechanism for protecting, preserving and conserving engineering heritage. We note Dunedin city has a very rich heritage and in particular has a wealth of industrial and engineering heritages sites because of the city’s importance as an early Provincial capital, place of learning and innovation, and a hub for industry and commerce.
