Practice Note: Screw Piles – Guidelines for Design, Construction and Installation (2015)
The use of screw piles as a ground anchoring system in New Zealand has recently grown in popularity, particularly since the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010 and 2011. However, designers and installers of screw pile systems are operating in a largely unregulated marketplace, which lacks any published New Zealand code of practice. This Practice Note, sponsored by Piletech, highlights critical elements of screw pile design, certification, installation and testing. It provides recommendations for good practice in New Zealand. Engineers, developers and local authorities should use this Practice Note as a reference when selecting a pile design and construction contractor.
