Practice Note: Engineers and Ethical Obligations 2016

Code of Ethical Conduct

The Code of Ethical Conduct is the backbone of what it means to be an engineering professional in New Zealand. It sets out engineering professionals’ duty to the public and to each other. The Code provides a decision-making framework for professional behaviour. It’s designed to help you balance competing pressures and understand the steps you need to take if you uncover something of concern.

This Practice Notes goes through each of the eight principles of the new Code of Ethical Conduct and provides interpretative guidance. It helps you understand why ethics is at the core of engineering practice and why ethical practice is key to your reputation.

Read this Practice Note alongside the IPENZ Code of Ethical Conduct.
